SALT RIVER TUBING & RECREATION

2003 TAKE PRIDE IN AMERICA AWARD WINNER

HONORED IN NATION’S CAPITAL

WASHINGTON (September 27, 2003) —Henri and Lynda Breault of Salt River Tubing & Recreation received the 2003 national Take Pride in America award presented by Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton. The recipients were honored on September 26th at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. for their efforts in 2002 and as models for others to emulate under the Take Pride in America campaign, which encourages citizen stewardship of public lands and resources. Salt River Tubing and Recreation was the only winner in the business category of the Take Pride in America award selection.

The national award honored Salt River Tubing & Recreation for “outstanding stewardship” for their development of the “Salt River Heroes = Litter Zero” program. The program is a litter awareness, education, and prevention initiative designed to minimize litter along the Lower Salt River shorelines and picnic areas. Major goals of the program included increased public awareness and respect in National Forest recreational areas and the conservation and preservation of natural resources. To promote resource stewardship, the company provided over fifty thousand free “Tommy Tuber” plastic litter bags to tubers who were encouraged to “stash and bag” their picnic trash while floating on the Lower Salt River last summer.

Take Pride in America is part of President Bush’s USA Freedom Corps, dedicated to fostering a culture of service to others. John Bridgeland, Director of the USA Freedom Corps, presented the Breaults with the President’s Service Award at the ceremony, which was held at the Department of the Interior headquarters.

Take Pride in America is a national partnership that aims to inspire a new generation of volunteers to put their love of country to work to improve our national parks, wildlife refuges, public lands, cultural and historic sites, playgrounds and other recreation areas.

“We are very honored to receive this prestigious award. We extend our thanks to all of the Salt River Heroes who took personal responsibility for their picnic refuse and helped to keep the Salt River clean and beautiful” said Henri Breault at the ceremony. Responsible stewardship of our natural resources will guarantee that we can enjoy quality recreational opportunities on our public lands for generations.”
